Videoconferencing with Microsoft Teams

Following the security breach Zoom encountered, the number of video calls placed through Teams boomed by 1000% in March!

On March 31st, Jared Spataro, Microsoft corporate vice-president, stated, “We’ve seen a new daily record of 2.7 billion meeting minutes in one day, a 200 percent increase from 900 million on March 16,”.

“From teams of workers sharing shift updates to students and teachers connecting in virtual classrooms and CEOs conducting town hall Q&As with thousands of employees, we’re all finding new ways to come together when we have to work and learn apart,” wrote Jared Spataro.

“We’ve seen bosses show up to meetings as virtual potato heads…” Jared continued.

It should be noted that the majority of communication service platforms had their records blown up in March as half the planet has a stay-in-place order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

In response to more demands from their clients, the Teams app will now include a “raise hand feature” letting participants indicate their wish to speak. This functionality will be available by the end of 2020.

Jared Spataro wrote in his Monday blog, “At Microsoft, privacy and security are never an afterthought.”

Microsoft Teams key features

  • Create and participate in a virtual meeting
  • Instant messaging
  • Secure Teams chats between colleagues
  • Real-time collaboration on documents with Share-Point and OneDrive

The Teams app is part of the Office 365 Business Premium and Essentials Suite available for both PC and MAC.
